Baker Street Ditch - yet another one of Mobile's kayakable polluted urban waterways. I do not know the extent of its drainage basin but drainage ditches can be seen on satellite images going along Tennessee Street at least to Ann Street. Baker Street Ditch iis also recipient of some of the drainage ditches along I-10 which is where the majority of litter probably comes from. I call it Baker Street Ditch because this unnamed waterway crosses under Baker Street before it drains into Garrows Bend. The fenced in ditch is kayakable up to Baker Street where the water is clear.
The density of trash between Garrows Bend and Baker Street reaffirms the theory that if you don't regularly remove the trash pollution from a waterway, the trash does not go away. Heads up Mobile Bay Western Shore Residents - thanks to Mobile's do nothing watershed management policy, this plastic load has your name on it.
No one ever goes up here during the annual Coastal Cleanup - yet trash not removed from Baker Street ditch will probably end up along Mobile Bay and beyond if heavy rains cause flooding conditions.
